5 Things to do your first week in Ridgecrest

  • Watch a sunset: This is something you can do from your yard, a park, or the top of the Rademachers, but take the time to sit down and absorb the colors of a sunset.
  • Go for a hike: Depending on the time of year, you may need to go very early in the morning, but there are lots of nearby spots that are great for exploring. Lace up your shoes, put on sunscreen and a hat, and don’t forget your water!
  • Visit a museum: Three local museums offer different insights into what makes Ridgecrest unique. The Maturango Museum demonstrates the natural history. The Historical Society of the Upper Mojave Desert is located in the Historic USO and displays cultural history. The China Lake Museum now has a location off base which shares some of the unique achievements in Naval air and surface armament and technology done here.
  • Try a new restaurant: The local restaurant’s may not have familiar names, but many have quality dishes that rival any big city chain. Try something different and find your new favorite.
  • Find an adventure: Head to to find something that interests you. There is a wide variety of interests in Ridgecrest, and chances are there is a group that gathers to share that interest. This is a great place to identify a new experience and get involved!

Give Big Kern is May 7

This year the IWV Economic Development Corporation is participating in Give Big Kern. The day is described as "One Day to Celebrate the Giving Spirit of Kern County!” The website explains "it is designed to bring all of Kern together as one community, raising dollars and volunteer hours for local nonprofits through a 24-hour crowd-funding campaign taking place on May 7." For convenience, the portal is now open.

Thank you to our first quarter donors!

We at the IWV Economic Development Corporation are so appreciative for the great start to 2019. We have many new and renewing members to thank. So far this year we have received support from: Mallory Boyd, Metcalf Construction, The News Review, AltaOne FCU, IWV Construction, Derrick Hu, Coso Energy, Ridgecrest Regional Hospital, S.O. Witt and Associates, and High Desert Haven. Wow. What a great representation of our community and their interest in the future of Ridgecrest and the surrounding area. The second quarter has started off strong- more to come on that soon!

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
